Hi, I’m Jingzao. I am from China and I think it is important to tell stories from my own cultural background in an Eastern context. Choosing the most appropriate material for the theme, pushing the boundaries of the media narrative and telling the story well is the most important thing for me. In this project I wanted to tell the story of a group of Chinese workers called “shamate”. I was fascinated by the contrast between the very individual hairstyles and the standardized mass manufacturing. I believe that with the development of the fashion industry and the globalization of the economy, every product they produce and their stories are relevant to us.
