Hi, my name is Junhao Wang and I am a first year knit student. My inspiration this time came from the Spirit screen in traditional Chinese architecture. In fact, the function of the Spirit screen is mainly to block people’s sight, but this blocking is not a completely closed form. I think it is this kind of semi-closed state that just shows a very essential sense of distance and boundary between people.
Statement
I want to use my work to try to explore the influence of gaze. I think the reason I choose gallery projects is that I can try some more abstract concepts and ideas, and I can try to integrate the audience into my work. Jean-Paul Sartre once said in the play Huisclos that Hell is other people. Whenever it is looked at, it is actually a time when personal subjectivity is objectified. And this objectification is inevitable and disturbing. Today everyone seems to be in a kind of panoramic prison, and everyone is watched by others in various ways. In many cases, people are not even aware of this process of constant objectification and objectification of others.
